Simple and quick fingerless mittens

Keeping your hands warm whilst cycling can be difficult, but not with these mittens. Colourful and cheerful, they will brighten up any grey day.

This easy to crochet pattern can be made in a fingerless or full mitten style. It uses three different colours of DK weight yarn and features alternating stripes of different stitches. This pattern is suitable for beginners.

Handlebar hands is part of a matching set with Cadence Cowl and Helmet Head, all inspired by the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire in 2014 and is available to download together as the Peloton Collection.

Sizes:

To fit palm circumference: 18 cm (7″), 21 cm (8″) and 23 cm (9″)

Fingerless mittens length (wrist crease to mitten top): 14 cm (5.5″) all sizes

Full mittens length (wrist crease to mitten top): 22 cm (8.5″), 24 cm (9.5″) and 24 cm (9.5″)

Yarn:

DK weight yarn.

baa ram ewe Winterburn DK: 50% Bluefaced Leicester wool, 50% Masham wool, 230m (252 yds) in 100g in colourways: Endeavour, Viking and Bramley Baths
One skein of each colour

Rowan Tweed yarn (118m per 50g ball; 100% wool), colourways 598 Monsal Dale, 599 Dove Dale and 601 Beresford
One ball of each colour

Needles & Notions:

4mm (US G) crochet hook

Gauge:

17 stitches and 13 rows per 10 cm x 10 cm measured over lace pattern in fingering weight yarn.

Increasing and decreasing

Crocheting in the round.
