Pretty geometric tam and mitts set

This beautiful matching tam and mitts set, with their geometric patterning and gorgeous woodland shades, are perfect for autumn and winter wear.

Knitted in the round as one piece, they have a simple stranded charted pattern that is suitable for beginners and feature ribbed cuffs.

Elizabeth Woodville (1437 – 1492) was the wife of King Edward IV of England. She was known to be very beautiful and played a large role in the war of the roses. She was thought to have been a witch and have magical powers as a descendant of Melusine the water spirit.

Sizes:

Tam: One size. Brim circumference 51cm (20”). To fit head size 53-56cm (21-22”)

Mitts: One size. 20cm (8”) high and 20cm (8”) circumference around hand at widest point (not including thumb).

Size of both can be changed by working at a slightly tighter or looser gauge.

Yarn:

DK weight yarn. This pattern looks good in semi-solid shades.

Needles & Notions:

3.25mm (US 3) and 3.50mm (US 4) circular or double pointed knitting needles

Stitch marker

Stitch holder or small amount of scrap yarn

Gauge:

32 stitches and 30 rows per 10cm x 10cm (4" x 4") measured over stocking stitch

Knit and purl stitches

Increases and decreases

Simple cables (either charted or written)

Following a simple colourwork chart

Stranded knitting
